Devon Day --- Sunday 30th August 2009

The misty conditions did not stop twelve cars and their occupants to assemble at the Royal Inn at Horsebridge for morning coffee prepared by the landlord Paul. All the cars except one  were MG comprising KN, PB, J2, Midget, B Roadster, two BGT’s, two MGF TF, ZR and a ZS, the exception being a Spartan.  Perhaps next time we can make it a first for D&C and have all MG’s!  The cars were split into two groups and followed a devious route North following the River Tamar as closely as possible.  The narrow, twisty roads were little used and thrilling to drive and crossed the river several times. Those who knew Moorsie did not wash their cars for the event and were not disappointed, although no fords were included, but they were covered in s*** by the end, the cars not the owners.  Arriving at Burmsdon Farm the weather had cleared and this is where the only aqueduct to cross the River Tamar is situated.  The aqueduct has recently been painstakingly rebuilt to its former glory by Moorsie’s firm under difficult conditions.  After a thorough inspection all agreed that his men had done a good job!

From here the group proceeded to the nearby Bradworthy Transport Museum for lunch and to look around.  Most were able to get a double discount for pensioners and groups!  The museum has a varied collection of cars, bikes, commercials, tractor and memorabilia.  It is very well presented and recommended to anyone who is in the district.
